April Fool

Congratulations! You have been to to Ship Full O' Pirates over 100 times! Just thought you'd like to know.

My Pirates didn’t fall too far from the ship. I’ve always been curious about the origins of things we, in our culture, take for granted. Not so much the, “Why is the sky blue?” sort of thing, but more the, “Why on earth do we turn the clocks back?” kind of thing. My Pirates and The Princess also are continually asking questions about origins. One Pirate, in particular, expects me to be able to answer questions about word origins, just right out of my head. This Pirate is probably most advanced in research skills because the stock Homeschool Mom answer is, “I don’t know, son, do you think you should look in the dictionary or the encyclopedia?” Tada, instant Language Arts, almost automatic.

I was thrilled today, when opening my email, to find info on the origin of April Fool’s Day. This never has been one of my favorite holidays. Not because I’m not a good sport, I love a good joke. But I never can remember to plan a good one. Probably because it comes at the first of the month, when I have other things to remember, like paying bills.

OK, did you go read the site I linked for this silly holiday? That was your History lesson, go write it in your lesson planner.

Gather the children around the computer and get ready for a Music lesson. No instrument required except for your own voice.

Really, if you write these down in your lesson planner, you’re half done for the day. Add some Math and Reading and you’re done!

  2. Hello. This is my first time at your nice blog. KimC at Life in a Shoe asked her readers to stop by here and say “Hi,” so that is what I am doing. :)

I get what you mean about April Fool’s Day not being a favorite. There is a story (which can be found at another blog) which adds a new but fitting aspect to the day:

God bless you and your family.

  3. The music one was my favorite! I’m going to print out the words and we’re going to sing them tonight at dinnertime! ;-)

Thanks for the fun! Off to do math and…and…what was the other thing I was supposed to do?
