Buying Books

Congratulations! You have been to to Ship Full O' Pirates over 100 times! Just thought you'd like to know.

I took the Pirates and the Princess to the thrift store today. The Cap’n needs shorts and a belt. He still does, the shorts just weren’t there and we forgot to look for the belt. But……………………. we got books!

In our house we have book shelves everywhere. I figure having bookshelves line all of the exterior walls provides additional insulation (we need this in the summer here in south Texas)(did that sound kinda like a justification?) We have loads of books. All the shelves are overstuffed. It took us a good while to accumulate this many books. BUT, I didn’t spend a fortune doing it! Just the books that the Pirates are currently reading, if purchased new and retail would represent a bundle of money. I almost never pay full price for books. Half Price Books is a great resource if you enjoy a retail feel when you shop. If you homeschool, you can get a teacher discount card (10% off), that helps, but they aren’t usually the most inexpensive option. Lots of these books were purchased on clearance at Vision Forum. Some were received as gifts. The rest of them were found at Texas Thrift for less than a dollar, or at garage sales for a dime.

I am an avid reader of book catalogs and homeschool catalogs. I even read books about books, and books about which books to read to your children, and books about which books children love. This way, when I’m in the thrift store or at a garage sale, I have an idea what I’m looking at, and what authors we like and which to avoid.

So here’s what we found at the thrift today.

Right you are! And when the books are .10 each, or .45 each, or even $1.50 for a nicely illustrated copy of Treasure Island, we don’t have to say no.

We too love books. I think toys are silly and a waste of money but books invest in their future…how can you say no to that?
