Congratulations! You have been to to Ship Full O' Pirates over 100 times! Just thought you'd like to know.
Dewey’s Treehouse is hosting the Carnival of Homeschooling. There are a number of good ideas on the links over there. Don’t you just love it when somebody else does all the work and puts it all together in one place for ya? This week’s theme is Homesick Camper’s. I didn’t realize there was a theme so maybe my entry sitcks out a little. Click right over there and check out all the stuff.
Speaking of sticking out a little, we are used to that. Homeschoolers stick out. Ladies in modest dresses stick out. Pirates who obey their folks stick out. Christians stick out. I really could go on and on with this. We just have to not care what the rest of the world thinks and says and does. Shame on ‘em. We gotta just keep on pluggin’ away at what we know is right.
Another way our family sticks out is that we don’t follow a set schedule for the school year. When you see all of life as an education, it’s very hard to take a vacation from it. I tried to keep to the world’s schedule for academics for the first few years, but that is so artificial that I ’bout came outta my skin. When educational opportunities present themselves you don’t want to consult a calendar, you just wanna learn.
I realized the other day that some of y’all might be wondering why I keep writing about academic subjects when the “whole world” is at the beach. We tend to spend more time indoors with the a/c on and a book in our hands when the temperature is above 90°. When the weather is fine we’ll be doing more outdoors stuff. As homeschoolers we have the freedom to set our own schedule and do things our way. If the rest of the world doesn’t like it they can sit on a tack shame on ‘em.

Hey MotherHen, thanks for the link! There isn’t usually a theme to the Carnival of Homeschooling (as in, send in posts on a particular topic)–when I host, I just settle on my own theme for putting it all together.
I’m with ya! If it wasn’t for the “free” neighborhood pool we would be inside ALL the time. It is too stinking hot in Texas during the summer!
