Down the Drain

   Posted by: MotherHen   in Extra-Categorical

My regular readers are learning that I really don’t like using harsh chemicals around the house or on the family, including the pets. So what to do when faced with a slow drain? Here’s a natural remedy, but you have to do this BEFORE it’s completely clogged, because it won’t work with standing water.

Pour 1 cup of baking soda down the drain, add 1 cup of cheap white vinegar. Now block the drain with an old wash-rag. Leave it like that for several minutes (10 maybe, depends on how bad it is). Set a timer so you don’t forget. Meanwhile, get about a half gallon of water boiling. After enough wait time has elapsed remove the rag and pour the boiling water down the drain. It ought to drain good and speedy now. If it doesn’t drain as fast as you think it ought to, do it all over again. And next time don’t wait so long to get around to taking care of it.
