The second July giveaway is the book Maps of the Ancient Sea Kings – Evidence of Advanced Civilization in the Ice Age by Charles H. Hapgood.
This book was originally published in 1966 and has been out of print for 20 years. The title says it all, this is a fascinating book with tons of maps. Any Pirate who finds History interesting will fall in love with this book.
The Rules
We’re gonna have a vacation theme for this giveaway. I don’t like going on vacation in this heat. Matter of fact I don’t like going to the mailbox in this heat. So, let’s pretend. Leave a comment telling where you would sail to if money were no object. Remember, we’re pretending, so if you get sea-sick, just pretend you don’t. If you wanna vacation back in the Ice Age (my choice) have at it, it’s all pretend anyway. Just tell where (and maybe what era) you would sail to. One entry per person.
However, if you want more entries, just blog about this giveaway, and you will be granted three more entries. It must be an actual post telling about this giveaway. Not just a word or two as part of a list. And don’t forget to link back to this post so your readers can get here easily.
Due to the high cost of shipping, this giveaway is limited to the continental 48.

In the present I would sail to Italy because I LOVE Tuscany!
In the past I would sail to Ireland.
What fun! I’ve never thought about where I’d like to sail to before! First of all, I think I want one of the tall-ships actual sail boats: those things look cool and I’m sure that I’d learn a bunch in learning to sail. As for destinations, I think I’m going to end up taking a world tour! We’ll start with the British Isles. We’ve been trying to plan a trip there for a long time now, and this would be just too cool! We’ll hit all three: England, Ireland, and Scotland. From there, it’s down the Ivory Coast and off to New Zealand! I’ve got friends who come from there, we’ll take them with for some local guides. Plus they are excellent company! After New Zealand we’ll stop by Austrailia for a bit. I’d have to do a little research to find out exactly what I want to do in Austrailia, but I’m sure we can keep ourselves busy!
From there, I’m thinking to stop by Java. We got to see and try out a gamelon when I was in college, and I want to find a real one in action. Those things were really cool!
Then, on to Japan! I love Japan. I’ve actually been there once. This time, since money is no object, we’ll park our sailboat and stay for a while. Long enough to dramatically improve my Japanese. And see all the stuff that I didn’t have time or money to see last time. Just bump our way up the coast. How convenient that it’s an island nation!!
At this point, I’ll notice that we’re on the opposite side of the world, so we’ll stop by and visit my sister in LA on the way home, head south and cross the Panama Canal & look at some of the ruins in Central America, then bop our way up the East Coast. We’d need to meander through the Great Lakes to Green Bay since we live in Wisconsin.
Oh, and my husband says that we should also stop in Greece and visit the sunken Egyptian at the mouth of the Nile delta. And he wants to visit Italy.
What fun! Thanks!
I’d find a deserted beach somewhere and have a month of fun and soaking up the sun with my hubby and daughter – no cell phones allowed.

The Bahamas or Jamaica. Thanks so much for the opportunity.
I have never had the opportunity to travel, so I would sail around the world. Since we are pretending I want to go around more than once! I would like to travel it in a different time period each time so my kids could have a wonderful learning experience.
I would sale to Ireland! I really want to go there again. I visited when I was a child and lately, the desire to go has been strong.
This book looks really neat!
I would love to sail to Ireland, as that is where my ancestors came over to America from. My DS would love to travel to Europe during the time periods of knights and castles!
I would sail to ancient Egypt to view all the magnificent pyramids.
I’d love to sail around the world… seeing Africa and India and Egypt, and…
So many places to see, too little money and time.
I love history! I’d love to sail back to Victorian England, or Colonial America or Europe in the middle ages . . . so many choices. Of course, since we’re dreaming, I want to somehow bring a bubble of modern conveniences with me to whatever time I sail to, thankyouverymuch LOL.
I’d just sail wherever the winds and currents take us! Hopefully we’d make it around the whole world eventually!
I think that I would sail to Hawaii – I would love to go there, but wouldn’t like to fly over the ocean, so sailing would be just fine, except for my fear of deep water – but since we’re just imagining – that’s where I’d like to go.
That book looks amazing!
Blessings,
Nancy
I’d love to sail to a small island where the people are friendly, it’s uncrowded, and there’s nothing for my way too adventurous boys to get hurt doing. Since they’re only 3 & 6 I’d like there to be some amazing child care person to entertain them for 1/2 hour each day. That way hubby and I can have a little time to ourselves!!!
I want to vacation on a beach of white sands down wind from a coffee factory…… I
We’ve got a little one interested in Notre Dame Cathedral right now (sparked by a preview for Disney’s show on the Hunchback, which is NOT gonna be watched here cause hashing up of classics drives Mama crazy!) so I’m choosing Paris, France. Never been there, and now that we’re homeschooling I’m starting to enjoy learning about it’s history. Think of the museums to see there …!
There is a beach in Venezuela called Playa Colorada. My husband and I spent 5 days there in a tent 22 years ago, when we were in Venezuela as short term missionaries. We had only been married three years, and we had NO money, but the tent was free, and showers were only 10 cents. I’d sail there and eat coconuts cracked open by my husband within 5 minutes of having fallen off the tree. Yum!
Well now, let’s see…it’s Canada Day, I’m homesick, my family lives in Saskatchewan, which is completely landlocked, but sure…since this is imaginary…I am putting my entire house on wheels, adding a big sail, and moving home to Saskatoon where I would much rather be.
Hmmmmm??? I wonder how much that would cost to do and what kind of wind it would take to get us there?
I would go back to Cozumel with my hubby (we went on our honeymoon) and I would spend more time outside , enjoying the scenery, sitting at the beach, and take lots of books, maybe Maps of the Ancient Sea Kings (among others)! I’m leaving soon on vacation and am taking 10 books, wonder how many I’ll get through? We’ll be on the road at least 30 hours.
I would sail to Bermuda. Then I’d relax in the sun. ‘Course since we’re pretending, I’d also be skinny while getting that tan.
Please enter me in your contest. I think my boys would enjoy this book someday ( when they learn to read).
