Congratulations! You have been to to Ship Full O' Pirates over 100 times! Just thought you'd like to know.
Allergies be hanged, I’ll take the cooler weather no matter what!
Last week we were able to turn off our a/c for 4 days. That’s gonna make a difference on our electric bill. Yahoo!
This week we’ll run it, but it won’t have to work as hard. It’s only gonna be in the low 90′s. Time to plant some broccoli and maybe a few other things. I haven’t decided yet.
In Texas we have two growing seasons because our Summers are usually too hot to grow much. And our Winters are usually mild enough not to hamper the growth of the cold hardy stuff.
I have been a fairly lazy gardener. I need to get more involved for a few reasons.
- This is a skill every woman should have and what I have can’t really be called skill.
- I have some ability, but I am not proficient.
- My Very Dear Hubby has real gardening skill, but he will soon be getting lots of overtime and less gardening time.
- Gardening is something we would like for our children to really get more involved in and have a working knowledge of before they marry.
So, if you see me sitting here at the computer with soil under my finger nails these next few weeks, be kind and look the other way and maybe I’ll share some home-grown cauliflower with you in a few weeks.
We use the Square-Foot Gardening method. Last week we made a start on getting the Summer overgrowth of weeds under control.
This week I hope to get the rest of the gardens whipped into shape and ready to plant.
Lower electric bill, higher water bill. It’s a good trade.
All of the gardens featured in this post were weeded by Cannonball Jack. He’s such a hardworking gardener!

I love the garden idea… we live in NY and the growing season is so short…. I can’t wait to see your garden bloom.
I absolutely love love love your posts. I love it when I find other moms just keeping it real and trying their best just to raise decent hardworking individuals. I’m trying to teach my kids the same thing although they are younger than yours they help the family as it should be. Kepp up the great blogging.
