This sounded so yummy that I made it for supper tonight. And it WAS YUMMY! My husband actually said "this is really good" which is HUGE because he never compliments my food... not that I'm a bad cook, but he just isn't that into food (yeah... I don't get it either)

Yum! I'm so hungry after reading your post. I'm going to try this meal as soon as I pick up some beans... oops! That'll mean I spend money. But that's okay, it'll be cheap. And I LOVE cheap! lol.

You gals are crackin' me up over the whole chicken and wings (or should I say, WING) thing.

Hi Carri, I'm thinkin that at least you HAVE the roosters so that all those hidden eggs aren't a complete loss. :D So, have y'all named the little one winged chick yet? How 'bout Lord Nelson? Or maybe Mr. Blakeny?

Hi Paige, we don't drink much milk. I did make enough powdered milk yesterday to put in the cornbread that I made for lunch.

Good for you! I put myself on a shopping ban in January, and that was so hard. That's when all the sales are! What do you do when you run out of milk? Dry powdered milk?

You're welcome to the fried chicken! I'll even grill up a few steaks for you too. We need to sign the contracts matching up a few of your pirates with a few of my princesses.

We clip one wing so the chickens cannot fly out of the yard we have fenced off so the dogs don't get to them. If they free range, they lay their eggs everywhere (plus the dogs place them in mortal danger), and God has made them better at hiding the eggs than we are at finding them! So we try to keep them in the yard and get their eggs. When they cooperate, we let them out in the late afternoons. But I am suspecting that they hold the eggs and lay them in the afternoons since one hen showed up with 8 chicks last week. ;) Which comes first, the chick or the egg?

Interesting side note (to no one but you and I, but anyway!) - Today one of the chicks showed up with a broken wing (the bone was even sticking out). Josiah called the vet to ask what to do, and followed his advice to perform a wing amputation! I was grossed out, but he did a great job!

I guess that will be one chicken which doesn't make it to the stewpot if it lives the week!

And come on over. Our weather is BEAUTIFUL!!! And I have a sweet little princess to hold...

And what on earth is the "clipping chicken wings" that you were doin' last evening? I know what it means when we clip the wings on our pet cockatiels, but we love them, and I read your post about your chickens and didn't sense any love. I suspect the "clipping" may have something to do with the plan for "death and dismemberment." I mean, if I'm coming over and all, is there gonna be fried chicken?
