I’m Gonna Stop Wasting My Time

   Posted by: MotherHen   in Homeschooling

See if you can spot the faulty logic here.

I have spent hours scouring the internet hoping for just the right math drill resource.

Duh!  I have flash cards!

Imagine the benefit to my Pirates if I had just spent half of that time working with them and all the many boxes of flash cards I already own.

I don’t believe that speed drills are the be-all and end-all of math study.  But, a solid foundation and speedy recall is necessary for all application of mathematics.

And just like the rest of life, the Pirates are only gonna hate doing the flash-cards for the first week or so.  Before the first week is over, they’re gonna start asking me to time them.  After all, competing with your brother’s speed on a box of flash cards is what makes the world go ’round!

We play M&M Math: I give them an m&m for every 5 flashcards they answer correctly. Or if we’re competing, which has been counterproductive for my crew, I give 5 m&ms to the winner. They love it!
