Congratulations! You have been to to Ship Full O' Pirates over 100 times! Just thought you'd like to know.
I know this is a really long post, but it reads fast, so stick with me.
OK, has everyone had a chance to watch the hiLARious song I put on my Walkin’ th’ Dog post?
Well, just in case you didn’t, and because I laugh so hard when I watch it (I will never again think, speak, or write the word liter-a-ture without remembering what it rhymes with), I’m puttin’ it in this post too. But, in a little while you will come to realize that it is way more relevant here than it was there.
The thing is, after I had watched this song about 7 or 12 times I thought, “Hm, maybe I’d like to watch this movie.” Turns out it’s available on amazon for less than $3 plus shipping which, for a DVD is what, $4? $3? Anyway, it’s a movie that has the potential to really make me laugh, and you know I value laughing, very highly, and it can be at my house in 3 – 5 days for less than $10.
SLAM ON TH’ BRAKES!!!
HOLD TH’ PHONE!!!
STOP TH’ MADNESS!!!
Yes, I remembered in time.
I totally put the movie outta my head. And it didn’t even hurt!
HA! I am good at this. I can NOT spend money very proficiently.
I went about my business all day long. No yearning to spend money at all. No longing for that which is not yet mine. Nuthin’! I’m fine.
Then, a little while ago, I was re-reading some of my posts (because I AM my biggest fan), and I watched that song again. You remember the song?
Anyway, after I watched it again, I thought to my forgetful self, “Self, how much did that movie cost on amazon?” So, I just clicked my merry way over there to have a look. Sure enough. Less than $3.
Then it happened. I began to argue. With myself. Oh, not out loud. The children would think I’d really gone around the bend. But I was arguing, none the less.
Strangely, there was a new aspect to the arguing though. An added feature that I had never before experienced during “the arguing with myself.”
Y’all stop acting shocked! You know you do it too.
The added feature was a little list of questions. “Why is this movie available for less than $3. Why do people who paid full price want to unload it for so cheap?”
Now, there were a few more questions in this new list of mine, and frankly, I will never know why some folks do what they do. Hard to accept, but true, none the less.
But the really cool thing is where I ended up with my new list of questioning. If so many folks are already done with this movie, maybe I can get it on Swap-a-DVD where I think I have one lonely credit not doin’ anything important. So, I logged in and low and behold, somebody, somewhere has a copy of The Prairie Home Companion ready to send to me.
AND the boogity-woogity cool part is I HAVE STILL NOT SPENT ANY MONEY TODAY!
Now, if you aren’t signed up with Swap-a-DVD, and if you ever buy DVDs, you should go right now and sign up. Put me down as your referring member and I will love you forever because the nice folks at Swap-a-DVD will give me a credit. All ya hafta do is give ‘em my email addy. shipfullofpirates (at) gmail (dot) com
Here’s the way they do things there. You sign up for free and you list all your DVDs that you want to get rid of. Some other member sees your movie listed and requests it. You send it to them (you pay to ship out your movie) and you get a credit & get to select a movie YOU want. And whoever sends you the movie which you have selected, pays the shipping. Free all the way around except when you are the one sending the movie out. AND when you list 10 movies with Swap-a-DVD they give you a free credit! And when you remember to list me as your referring member I get a free credit, so remember that part, cuz I do love to watch movies, particularly the free sort.
Are you ready for the beauty & logic of Swap-a-DVD for Christians? What do you do with a movie that you bought at StuffMart when you get it home only to find out that it’s way racier than you are comfy with?
Turn that thought around. What does the world do with a movie they bought at StuffMart, only to find out that there’s no n*dity or vi*lence or insert your name for evil here?
After you are all signed up with Swap-a-DVD you should click over to Thrifty Jinxy. She has started a “Thrify-Thursday: Living on the Cheap” carnival where you’ll be able to find all manner of frugal living ideas all gathered up in one place!
