Walkin’ th’ Dog

   Posted by: MotherHen   in Pets

No, I do not own a yo-yo.  I own an actual dog.  And her name is Trixie-the-Wonder-Dog.  And she’s running for president.

Please look in the left side-bar and locate the Trixie for President button.  That’ll look so good in the side-bar of your blog, won’t it?

Now, Trixie is a wonderful girl.  We truly love her.

But, for the most part she lives in the back yard.  So, her toe-nails have gotten a little over grown, not bad, but enough so that I noticed.  I also noticed that her back has been bothering her some, which is probably due to the toe-nail problem.  She is usually VERY active, and that has gone down hill a little bit, and that may also stem from the toe-nail problem.

Now, the obvious cure for all of these ailments is to take her for a regular walk.  I had it in mind.  I really did.

But ya know that back burner?  That one way back behind all the other good intentions, like exercising, and taking the children to the park, and cracking down on the handwriting practice, just for instance.

Anyway, walking the dog had been on THAT back burner.  Until I read this over-the-top great advice about taking my dog out for her walk.   I had no idea how important it is to a dog to go for a walk.  Sounds dumb when I say it.  Please go read the article. But, this is the way God intended dogs to behave, and our suburban yards really make dogs kinda nutso.

So, Trixie and I are starting slowly.  Just once around the block each day.  And do you know?  I can be so much more motivated about haulin’ myself out for a walk if I am doing it for someone besides myself.  Who’s nutso now?

That’s what Works for Me!

If I had a dog, I would totally take her for a walk. But that whole walking the dog thing? The exact reason I DON”T have a dog!

When I got my very own puppy at age 15, I kept her inside and walked her every day. I would never have gone for walks by myself, but the dog needed it. When I first started I couldn’t walk a mile, but after a few months three miles was easy. And for the first time in my life, I lost weight. Truly a win-win situation.
