Tell me if this ever happened to you. You wash all the dishes and have dry, dry, dry hands. So you reach for the Aveeno or whatever and make it all better. Only thing is, the next thing you do is eat a piece of fruit or something, with your hands, only to find out that your hand lotion doesn’t taste so good. Which leads you down the path of wondering, “Just exactly what is it that they make lotion of anyway?” Which leads to wondering, “Have I just put some kind of liquid plastic (which is what I think of margarine) into my mouth?” ICK!
Here’s another conundrum. If it’s not ok to ingest it, is it really ok to put it on your skin? I guess we tend to think of the skin as possessing the ability to filter out all the weird, bad, un-necessary ingredients in the lotion and thereby keeping things like triethanolamine out of our blood stream. Don’t Google that by the way, unless you are very brave. If you have lotions containing it, you may want to just chuck ‘em in the round file.
I can’t be the only one who finds this to be absolutely revolting. But, I have found the perfect solution.
Coconut Oil
I really don’t remember what possessed me to try this in the first place, but I’m really glad I did.
One time, after my shower, I decided to try it on my face. It felt so good.
I’m talking about the food grade coconut oil that you buy right there in the grocery store, right next to the olive oil and the canola oil. (Ever wonder, “What’s a canola, anyway?”)
So now it’s the only moisturizer I use. All over.
It’s also a fantastic deodorant and I know you don’t want to believe me on that one, but it’s true. Coconut oil has anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties.
And it feels really good on your skin. And it has only one ingredient. And it’s food. So you are allowed to eat it right off of your fingers when you have a piece of fruit after rubbing it into your hands.
Did I mention, this stuff feels really good on your skin. Ya gotta try it!
My Apologies
I love to have pictures on all of my posts. I tried to put some on this post and couldn’t get it to work. You see, my desktop computer is having a bad attitude about the internet and won’t play nice. I am so grateful to Garfield and Stephanie for my laptop, which is the only reason that I am able to post at all right now, or read my emails, or approve your comments, or anything at all to do with the web. Unfortunately, the laptop has forgotten how to upload images to the blog. Small sacrifice for the convenience of being able to do all of the other internet related activities to which I have become extremely addicted which I find to be a great convenience in our daily life.
Soon we’ll get to the bottom of whatever is griping the desktop and get that worked out. Until then it’s just words and YouTube. Come back tomorrow for a little vid of one of my favorite childhood songs.
