I love this trick.
I just don’t enjoy cooking oats, or anything else for breakfast. But I can be persuaded to make this for the smaller two. The others are big enough to make it themselves.
Homemade Instant Oatmeal
Into your microwavable cereal bowl put:
- ¾ cup water
- 6 tablespoons oats, I use old fashioned
- a couple of shakes from your salt shaker
Pop this into the microwave for 1½ minutes (more or less, you know how microwaves are)
This is gonna be hot when it beeps so be careful not to get a burn.
We like to add sugar, cinnamon, butter, and some of these crazy Pirates even put peanut butter in theirs.
Homemade Instant Malt-o Meal
(this recipe is actually on the box)
- 1 cup water
- 3 tablespoons Malt-o Meal
- a couple of shakes from your salt shaker
Microwave on high for 1 minute, stir, microwave for another minute.
Again, take care not to get a burn.
I love how easy this is, and you wouldn’t think that, in a large family, there would be much need for this sort of thing, but we are a little weird about breakfast. My Very Dear Hubby makes a huge green smoothie for the two of us, and most every one else is on their own with various cereals and fresh fruit.
What’s that? You want to know how to make a delicious green smoothie? Well, since you asked nicely.
The Huge Green Smoothie
Put the following into your blender
- 1 handful of baby spinach
- ½ – 1 cup water
Now turn it on, and add the following items, allowing time between additions for the blender to do it’s job.
- 1 banana (fresh or frozen)
- big handful of frozen strawberries
- medium handful of frozen peaches
- 2 tablespoons coconut oil
- 2 tablespoons honey
If it gets too thick to let stuff blend in, just add a ¼ cup of water. If it’s too runny, add more frozen stuff, like strawberries, ‘cuz they’re so yummy.
