Gettin’ Ready for the Day

Posted by: MotherHen   in My Pirates

Well, it’s Wednesday.  That means only one thing in all of blogdom.  It’s Works for me Wednesday at Rocks in my Dryer.

Here’s my fabulous tip for the week.  Be sure to read all the way to the end.  There’s a special post and a giveaway!

I find I get more done in a day if I make sure and dress for the job.

Really.  If I wear flip-flops I don’t move around my home with the same confidence as when I am wearing my tennies.  I am just not gonna sweep or mop while wearing house-shoes.  And so, by wearing the right shoes I get more done in the day.

And I have fairly long hair, that will drive me bananas if I don’t pull it back.    I don’t know how some girls deal with their hair hanging down next to their face when they lean over to talk to their little one.  And how does the little one deal with Mama’s hair landing on their head?  Mine usually try to hand it back to me.  Can’t stand it.  I always put it up in a bun before emerging from by bedroom in the morning.  It’s just more orderly.  I get nothing done when my hair is not up.

I only do one bun, but I’m sure that for inter-stellar flight, two is probably more practical.

But the thing that really keeps me movin’, and organized, and efficient is my apron.  I love my apron.

Stunning, isn’t it?  Yes, I know it’s not the vision of loveliness.  But it is the epitome of efficiency. And I have 2 of them, so one is always clean.

I carry a Sharpie and a regular ballpoint pen in the pen pocket.  A pair of scissors in one of the big pockets.  And I’m ready for all of my duties.

As I go about my day, I always find stray bits of toys, you know, legos and play-mobile parts and on and on and on.  I just tuck ‘em in my apron pocket and keep moving.  Later, when I am at my leisure (hahahaha) I generally sell them back to their previous owners.  Yup, if I have to pick it up, it’s mine.  But, the point is, I have an apron pocket available for it.

I don’t have to decide, on the spot, what to do with each and every little thing I come across in the course of my day.  I just drop it in my handy-dandy apron pocket.  Most of the items I put in there can be deposited in their proper place as I happen by.  But the thing is, I don’t have to make a special trip to put anything away.  But, if I happen to find a Pirate who is “eating the bread of idleness” all I have to do is reach into my apron pocket and hand him a few things to put away.  Two birds, one stone.

Yes, I love my apron.

I’m with you, the shoes, the hair, the apron. It just makes sense lol. I do get more done when I’m not aggrivated with little things like my long hair sticking to my neck or my feet hurting from wearing the wrong shoes.
Great post.

Great tips! I love the part about finding things and then selling them back to the previous owner. I’ll have to remember that one for sure!

I sell things back, too, only not being an apron wearer (although I have several, I forget) I usually have a pile going on the counter. Great tips! Thanks!

My apron is just like yours! I have three and am always washing one of them. I agree with wearing tennis shoes, but my hair is too short for a bun.

I thought you changed your blog. I like it.
I like my house shoes too. Dh doesn’t. He thinks they track dirt. I reassure him that I wear them only in the house. Can you imagine hot grease spilling on your feet. Ouch!
My hair isn’t as long as yours but if my hair isn’t done nicely I feel a mess. I just got it done yesterday. So after I wash it I’ll have to show before & after pic.
