***UPDATE***
This giveaway is now closed.
So here’s the deal. I changed the look of my blog and as a way of celebrating I am having weekly giveaways all month long! This is the third such giveaway and I’ll get to what I’m giving this week in a couple of minutes.
But first I thought I would give a plug to the upcoming Bloggy Giveaways. Isn’t it cool that it’s coming up and it’s on the last week of my month long, weekly, October giveaways? That will start on the 27th of October.
This week I’m giving the book that everyone wants to read! Passionate Housewives Desperate for God.
But the totally cool part is that I am gonna give one of you a copy to read and a copy to loan out. One winner, two copies. Yes, it’s that good!
The Rules
- This giveaway is open to the continental 48 states.
- Everyone gets one entry.
- You may have another entry if you blog about my giveaway. (please leave a second comment with a link to your post)
- To enter, leave a comment telling us your family’s favorite board game and who in your family usually wins! I really enjoy getting to know y’all through your comments.
- You may enter any time from now, until Friday night (October 24th) at midnight. I’ll choose a winner sometime Saturday, email the winner and let everyone know by blogging about it!

We like Trouble (with the little dice popper) and my 6-yo ALWAYS wins. He’s a lucky little stinker.
We love Rummikub.
My husband got us a game last year for Christmas called Cathedral. It’s a two player game but the winner plays the next person, My youngest usually wins, even against me!
We love Clue and my husband usually wins, then we all tell him to stop cheating!
We don’t play board games unless Operation counts. But we do play UNO a lot.
We love (at least my 3 year old and I do) Socken Zocken, which is a funny German “sock matching” game that someone gave her for her birthday.
I’d love to read the book — I’m becoming more and more convinced the longer I’m a SAHM that I’m living out a unique vocation that needs to be honored, not just “staying at home for the kids”.
I’d love to win!
We love lots of Games, Ziggity, Sorry, Sequence…
I just put up a blogpost about the contest. http://madridmom.blogspot.com/2008/10/bloggy-giveaway.html
Our family loves Sorry. They say that I always win but I don’t think so. We also like Apples to Apples. the winner in that is not always the same. We just have fun laughing at the way the cards fall on that one.
We love Deal or No Deal, a card game called Twinkie….and the winner is usually our youngest daughter, Gates!
She rocks!
Settlers of Catan is a favorite here. My oldest son usually wins.
My son LOVES Monopoly. He usually wins because he makes up/changes the rules as he goes.
I have really wanted to read this book. I like the idea of having an extra copy to lend out.
We like Disney Scene It.. Okay, it’s electronical but it’s ALSO a board game. Sean (my 10 year old) usually wins…
Older kids’ favorite game is Settlers of Cataan. Who wins varies–but often is son Daniel. Younger kids like Clue and winner position isn’t limited to any one or two people.
I love all board games! We don’t play them nearly enough. I’m looking forward to my daughter getting old enough to play!
We are newly married with our first baby on the way, so we don’t have many board games so far. However, we do have Operation, which was given to my husband as a gag gift during medical school. He did a surgery internship, so he has the steadier hand between the two of us. I personally think that is an unfair advantage, but it’s a fun game all the same.
Our family of 6 loves to play Apples to Apples. The children range in age from 7-23 (plus Dad and Mom) and this game plays great with “kids” of any age. At the end of each game we go around the table and read our cards saying, “I am….” then fill in the blank using the descriptive words we won.For example, “I am unusual, stinky, obnoxious, trustworthy, yet twisted.” (Raise eyebrow for effect, and add sinister laugh if desired!) The sentences vary from game to game and this is ALWAYS the highlight. If you were a kid, wouldn’t you love to hear your Dad read the above sentence about himself…especially if he’s not normally a dramatic sort of guy?
we play alot of backgammon, both of us win our share. we also play tumbling monkeys with our son–cute game!
and i’d love to win the books!
Our favorite game is Scrabble – only we play the French version. Good for vocabulary practice. In French you don’t have to worry about finding words using “Q”.
I found your site through Frugal Hacks.
Our favorite game is Dutch Blitz. It’s a “vonderful goot game”, lol. Very fast, very exciting, and something that even my 7yo was able to play and understand. Lots of fun!
I am also adding you to my post today. So go and check it out and also my give away and 2 others. Hope we have some winners!
Oh I love board games! I love games. We play hand n foot every Friday night as family/friends game night. My daughter’s fav is Win, Lose or Draw on the dry erase board. My husbands is Cribbage. And I am a massive fan on Backgammon. I always have a deck of cards and a container of 7 dice in my purse so I never am bored while I am waiting anywhere. LOL We pull them out at resturants while waiting on food, at doctors office waiting rooms or even while sitting in the car waiting on someone doing an errand.
As to which game is our favorite, it depends on which family member you ask! My daughter (6 yr.) is still a big fan of Candy Land. She usually wins at that. The grown-up favorite is probably Scrabble.
I’ve heard so many good things about this book, but haven’t managed to get my hands on it yet. Thanks!
I read your post on Frugal Hacks, I have really been wanting to get this book and possibly do an online Book Study with it.
I have 4 girls, ages 5 and under so the favorite board game around here is Candy Land!
The winner varies…..
We have a house full of littles, but our favorite with our oldest is Monopoly. Evan, 8, usually wins. And DH and I don’t give him any special treatment, either!
I added the link to my blog:

My 4 year old son just got Hungry Hungry Hippos for his birthday so this is our current favorite game. Our 5 year old son usually wins.
Our favorite game as a family is Rummi-Kub, I think that’s how you spell it. We just learned how to play this past summer. My oldest daughter usually wins.
For group playing, we love Apples to Apples. We play this every time we have a Sunday School class get-together. As for who wins, some nights it seems like it’s always the same person — and never me!
We play an interactive board game with a dvd, Pirates of the Carribean. More often than that we play Uno or card games. I usually don’t remember who wins-we just have a great time playing it! Thank you for the entry, I would love to read the book-and even better that you include an extra to loan, I do that all the time!
Our family’s favorite game is Sorry!. Our daughter usually wins-upsetting her younger brother GREATLY!!!
We also like Feed the Kitty. We found it at Barnes and Noble. It is hard for us to find a game that everyone in the family can play-but isn’t ‘babyish.’ Our daughter is 18 but she has mental challenges so it can be kind of difficult…
I feel like I’m the last person in blog-world who hasn’t read this book yet!
We usually play Sequence. Love it for the mix of luck versus strategy — a good balance for us. I used to always win… until I shared my secret strategy with my husband. Now I lose.
I have just littles now and our favorite board game to play is called Itsy Bitsy Spider by Discovery Toys. It is short enough that it keeps the 2YOs attention but fun for the 4YO too. The 2YO usually wins.

We do not play games very often. We have seven children ages 9 to 5 months old so we stay very busy. However, my children and I like to play Trouble. My second son, Ian, usually is the winner.
My kids (9, 11, 13) love Monopoly and given the choice would play it exclusively…but we also really enjoy Apples to Apples and Trivial Pursuit (everyone gets their cards of choice – ds gets Star Wars questons, DH gets LOtR questions). The Boy (11yo) or I usually win
I love Boggle and always win. However, because I always win, no one will play with me now. : (
We love to play connect 4. Usually my hubby runs the board, as he likes to say. We play in tournament format.

I posted about it!
Our favorite board game as a family is Apples to Apples and it varies who wins…but my son LIKES to win the most.
If it’s our extended families or a large group we love to play Catchphrase..boys against the girls…the boys always play until THEY win!
The original “Trivial Pursuit” is our family’s favorite board game. We play in pairs and
usually my husband/younger son wins over
myself/older son! Thanks for the chance to
win two copies of this fantastic book. I would
share a copy with my older sister! Cindi
Ah posted abaht it heah:

(Please forgive the Southern Accent. I’ve been trying to pick it up ever since we moved to TN. Is it working?)
Just lately our family has really been enjoying Apples to Apples. =)
I don’t know who usually wins…but I know who usually loses. That would be me. =D It’s not unusual to find me at the end of the game having won NOT ONE round. =D
For the whole family (ages 3-43) Blokus is a hit and anyone can win! For those 6 and older, Settlers of Catan, where either the Boy (8), the Fair Maiden (13) or the Dad usually wins.
I’m a new reader and I love your blog! We love playing the new electronic Monopoly, now there isn’t any way for my hubby or son to cheat, so us girls win a little more often! LOL
My children (who are 8 & 6) love to play checkers. They are very competitive and they each win equally. Thanks for the great giveaway!
The first game that comes to mind is Scrabble. My oldest son loves it. My husband’s sister lives several hours away and whenever we get together DS and DSiL have the Aunt/Nephew Scrabble “marathon”. She wins a lot, but then she’s got a doctorate degree and my DS just turned 13. She better not get too confident… he’s getting better all the time
I posted about your giveway to my blog!

We’re into Snakes and Ladders at the moment. I’ve got little kids. <> They always win. ROTFL
We play Sorry. There is no consistent winner but the kids, especially the 5 year olds, always beat me. So I suppose I am the winningest loser.
Okay I would really like to win this. Hubby and the boys favorite board game is Star Wars Monopoly. Mine is Trivial Pursuit but it’s a special addition one ( that I can’t remember the name of) that I actually have a slight chance of winning.
Settlers of Catan is a favourite around our house. My son definitely wins more than anybody else. He seems to have it all figured out.
We also love to play Scrabble as a couple- only play it differently and call it Take One. Each person makes their own scrabble words layout and when you use up all your letters you hollar take one and everyone has to take a new tile! Yes, Hubby always wins!
We love to play Boggle. We are so competitive and its amazing that no matter how many times we play it, we think of so many new words. We never know who is going to win!
Hi – love your blog – I am a new visitor – saw your post on MPM. Our family plays “young” board games since our oldest is only 4 but I’d say we play checkers most and my daughter does win a lot now that my husband taught her strategy. The grownups like Scrabble and my husband wins 99% of the time but it’s still a blast to play! Thanks for the chance to win!
We really love playing Scrabble and my husband always wins. He’s the worst of the four of us with spelling but he wins because he really thinks out his moves carefully.
