Sing the Vowels

If you’re new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed

If you read my post about teaching Cannonball Jack to read you will know, I have used a lot of phonics programs, so I know, not all of them spend any time teaching just exactly which of the letters are vowels.  So, here is the easiest method in the world (yes, I checked) for teaching the vowels to your littlest pirates.

Old MacDonald had a farm, A-E-I-O-U.

You just sing the song and replace the nonsense E-I-E-I-O with the genius-making A-E-I-O-U.

By the time they need to know about “and sometimes Y” that part will be a breeze.

You’re welcome.

And here’s a little bonus.  If you want your little ones to color inside the lines, invest in the twistable crayons.  They really have a smooth application of color that doesn’t drag on the paper causing frustration, messy pages and tired little hands.

And Crayola didn’t pay me to say that (although they really oughta).  I just love those expensive, little crayons.

Now y’all head back over to Rocks in my Dryer for roughly 380 other helpful hints on Works for me Wednesday.

    You’re BRILLIANT!

    And I LOVE those crayons – my children adore them, (once they figured out not to twist too far ;-}
    And it’s an item I put on the “Gramsie-wants-to-buy-another-gift-for-the-little-bugs” list.
    She thought of them first – Gramsie’s are like that!:-)

    I wish my kids were younger so I could use all the neat art supplies that have come out in the last 5-10 years.

    Wait, would anyone really care if I just bought them for myself….!

    Thanks for the great idea. My baby is 2 and knows her letters but doesn’t know which ones are vowels. I’ll be using this in our preschool.

    That is the same song they used in my Chickie Boy’s Kindergarten class to teach vowels! It’s so easy!

    We also love those twistables – and you SHOULD get paid to say that!
