The first has come and gone and it’s time for the November giveaway.

This month I’m giving away Pirate City by R.M. Ballantyne.

The Pirate City is the story of the Algerian pirates who were the scourge of the Mediterranean sea during the early to mid-1800s. They would plunder the ships of other sovereign nations, and as a result were a wealthy little city-state, until their demise in the Barbary War. In this story, set during the heyday of the pirates, a merchant and his sons Mariano and Lucien are captured aboard their trading vessel, and taken as prisoners to the pirate capital of Algiers. A rousing tale, the reader will follow their adventures to rescue other prisoners, experience life in the pirate city, and join in their attempts to escape. Forced to endure slavery as “Christian dogs before their Muslim captors,” the heroes rely on Providence to bring deliverance, and ultimately win their freedom through their friendship with the Dey — the ruler of the city. R.M. Ballantyne actually spent time in Algiers and dressed himself as an Arabian to research this book, and its historical accuracy is amazing as the reader learns about life with the Algerian pirates.

You can buy this book at Vision Forum for $22, or you can enter my giveaway.  But you should do both.  That way, if you win it you’ll have one to loan out.  I am a big believer in loaning out great books.  But I like to have a copy dedicated as a loaner.

The Rules:

  1. You may enter only once for this giveaway.
  2. Ok, if you blog about it you may have another entry, just come back and let me know you did.
  3. This giveaway is only open to mailing addresses in the continental 48.
  4. I’ll choose a winner on Friday, November 28th.
  5. To enter click on this link to get to Vision Forum, browse around a bit, and come back and leave a comment telling which product you would most like to see under your Christmas tree this year.

A better question would be, “Which items do I not want under my tree this year?” I love Vision Forum products. I have always had my eye on the complete set of Lamplighter books, so I guess that would be close to tops on my list.

I have a little brother, so we’ve been trying to build up our library with a lot of Henty books, Alger books and we have a couple of Ballantyne, but would love to continue to build up. So, I would enjoy any of those books from vision forum. The Jonathan Park cds would be great too. A preloaded ipod nano with any of the vision forum seminars would be great. Princess Adelina looks lovely as well…. Now I’m sounding greedy!! Thanks for the great giveaway!

I hope I can enter even though I don’t blog. I’m new to this blogging thing and live in a dial-up world…but I’m loving the encouragement I’m finding out there! Anyway, as for Vision Forum–what’s not to want?! I love the ipod but there’s that dial-up problem, so how about the new book by Doug Phillips…boy, it’s hard to stop with just that… Are you sure you didn’t mean the top 10 things?! :)

At our house the children get 3 gifts each. The prof and I figure if 3 gifts was good enough for Jesus, it’s good enough for them! To which some wise-cracker immediately says, “I’ll take the gold!” We’re not raising idiots here! ~~~Seriously, it releases us to enjoy buying them things things we must really think about, and releases them to enjoy what they are blessed with that day, instead of losing focus of what the day is all about. That said…this year the swords and knife throwing books are high on their GFM list (gold, frankencense, and myrrh list). So if you see a homeschooling family from Arkansas in the news come January because someone cut someone’s ear off, you can say, “oh yeah…I know them!”

Well, I’d love the reclaiming the culture dvds, but my boys would jump for joy over the metal crane or the marshmallow gun. Thanks for the great giveaway! We’ve not read any Ballantyne books but would like to see what they’re like.

Our Vision Forum catalog gets worn out every year from my children flipping flipping flipping through it. Problem is, they don’t sell enough eggs from our farm to buy their hearts desires.
If I could have 1 thing, it would be all the GA HENTY and Ballantyne books for my 4 sons .and one of the dolls for each of my 3 daughters, and a cool sword and…..oh, did I say 1 thing…sorry. ; )
IF you only wanted to hear one, then I’d pick the Liberty Doll for my 8yo.

The History of the World dvd’s would be great, but to be honest I really want to listen to the 24 hours is all you get cd by Susan Bradrick. Maybe I should tell DH I just want a gift certificate?
Love the name of your blog btw!
