Christmas Craftiness

I get worn out reading about all the crafts and cookies and huge dinners being planned and prepared all over the bloggityville.  I don’t have the patience for too many projects and none of mine can be very involved.  Short and sweet, thank you very much.

tamales

So, we have a simple Christmas Dinner of Chili and Tamales.  Oooh, my Very Dear Hubby ordered 5 dozen homemade Tamales for us.  If you have never had homemade Tamales, (hi Karen!) you should just get on a bus headed for San Antonio and come pick some up.  They’re the best!

The craft for this season is crocheted hats.  These are so simple that I have memorized the pattern.  And I can work one up, start to finish, in about an hour.

The treat is such fun to make, and I had helpers a-plenty.  With this treat, the younger the helpers, the better. Smaller children tend to try to sling the excess chocolate from the pretzels, there-by causing all of the participants to become chocolate coated too.  This is a good thing!  Remember, I said it’s chocolate!  We ALL licked our fingers and hands and elbows, ok, we licked each others elbows, but you get the idea.

I love the idea of a simple meal like Chili and tamales!! We order them from a family my mom used to work with -mmm!! And you’re hats are great, I crochet also and can do the hats in a jiffy, so easy!

YUM! We have to compromise a bit here in the winter (use waxed paper and steam them in a steamer) but they’re still WAYbetter than canned!

Oh, I laughed out loud at the tamales…thanks for the picture. They’re GORGEOUS. While I can’t hop a bus to come and taste ‘em myself (would if I could!), I am sure you’ll enjoy them immensely.

As for us, we have a wonderful leg o’ lamb waiting to be roasted…if we still have power on Christmas! It’s a-blizzarding here!

I’m with you 100% on the “short and sweet”. I don’t see how people get all these very involved meals and projects done. I am barely keeping my ship afloat!
