Help for Growing Families – Fun!

Why do children enjoy mess making?  Why do their little hearts desire squishy, sticky, icky things?

Way back when The Cap’n and Calico Zak were 3 and 4 years old, we had a chihuahua puppy.  Those mischievous powder monkeys took that little puppy under a low table that we had in our den.  Did I mention they also had a big can of crisco with them?  They smeared that puppy with crisco and the underside of the table and all of the carpeting in the area.  I had no idea what they were up to because I couldn’t see them.  I could hear them and I knew where they were, but I just thought they were playing with cars or something.  I had no idea until I saw that poor puppy running around later, all greasy.

Yeah, it’s very funny now.  I don’t remember how I got the crisco out of the carpet, so don’t ask.  But I do remember washing, washing, washing that puppy, and those Pirates were pretty slippery too.

So, my point in revealing this crazy incident to you is this -  it’s just a natural fact, children love messes.  And I have learned, that there’s no fighting it, so I should go with it, in a limited way.

You may already have the ingredients on hand to make some of these fun messes.  These kinds of crafts don’t have to take all day, usually they just take a few minutes.   Go for it!  Your kids will rise up and call you blessed!

Having kids is messy.  Having lots of ‘em is really messy.  Keep a wet washcloth handy!

It does look easier to clean up than the mud my kids usually play with…
