A whopping 25 of y’all guessed.  What a hoot!  That was fun!

The answer is  homemade deodorant!

Readers who guessed correctly are:

  •  Shelly
  • Monica
  • Pat *
  • Shannon
  • Heather *
  • Denise

Smiles and sunshine for the six of ya!

*Pat and Heather made me laugh out loud, so extra smiles and sunshine for you two.

And there were no volunteers to star in a video tutorial showing how to apply it, so just use your imaginations!

And while several of you guessed that the crocheted dealie was a deodorant applicator, I bet none of you ever imagined that it was originally a bun cover that I made several months ago.  It was too small to contain all my hair, so it was just sitting there, on the shelf, when I was looking for a washcloth to use as my deodorant applicator.

I got the recipe from Ivory at Little House in the Suburbs.

The three ingredients are baking soda, cornstarch and tea tree oil.  I put 4 heaping spoonfuls (just a regular cereal spoon) of both powders and about ¼ teaspoon of the tto.  I thought it would clump up, but it’s odd.  The texture changed just a very little bit, but no clumping.

Does it work?  Does it keep me stinky free?

TOTALLY!!!

I used to use Tom’s of Maine but didn’t like it because it wasn’t effective for the whole day, and sometimes it was a tad irritating to my skin.  Plus it’s not the cheapest thing in the world.

So, I switched to straight coconut oil.  That was a big improvement.  It was more effective and very soothing to my sensitive skin.  But still, some stinky beyond the 12 hour mark.  And since I don’t want to take 2 showers every day….

I tried Ivory’s concoction.  She swears by it.  I didn’t experiment with straight baking soda.  In her post she said it might irritate, and I am all about avoiding irritations… of any sort, really.

Was I ever amazed!  No irritation at all, and I have never used a more effective deodorant!  EVER!!!

Even beyond the (shhh, this part is secret) 24 hour mark.  Can you keep a bigger secret?  Really?  (Shhh, even up to 48 hours.)  (SHHHH!!!  Don’t tell on me for skipping a shower.  K?  I mean it!)  It was all in the interest of researching the product.  Pretty sure that’s my excuse reason.

But, even after that, NO STINKY!!!  I’m still amazed.  The little kid part of my brain is wondering, “Do I have to take a shower if I don’t stink?”  While the adult part of my brain is thinking, “GROoOoOoOSS!!!”   Thankfully, the adult part of my brain wins!

Now it’s your turn!  What have you made?  If you have a photo or a link to the instructions, please include them.  If not, that’s ok too, just tell us all about it.  And you may reach back into your archives for this.  I won’t insist on only “fresh” posts, as long as it’s never been linked here before.  It might be new to many of us.

Please link here in the Mister Linky box.  If you don’t have a blog you can still play along,  just tell all about it in the comments box.

Here are the Mister Linky rules:

  1. [...] Yes, after some initial skepticism, I jumped on the bandwagon.  I'm now using and loving my homemade deodorant (the first that has ever really worked for me!) and baking soda/vinegar instead of [...]

Hmmmm. That’s pretty cool. I may have to try that. I’ve never really liked it that the regular deodorant says “don’t put this on broken skin” and other comforting things.

    Ah HA!!!!

Very interesting! Must try that, as I have very stinky armpits and the only deodorant that seems to work for any length of time is Secret.

That added to the fact that this week I had a little bit of a scare with a tender lump in my armpit makes me think…hmmm….better start using healthier stuff! =D

We run out of tortillas all the time, despite the fact that we buy 100 at a time. I always thought it would be an awful lot of work to roll ‘em out by hand. I’ll be interested to hear how they come out.

  5. Honey says:

I have made kefir, laundry detergent, bread, and as of yesterday butter. Also various crafts and sewing projects. I want to try a recipe for tortillas as we run out sometimes…

I’ve been pondering your clues for what was in that bowl all week! Haha deoderant was a surprise (my guess was a flop!)
