I know that lots of you already know about BibleGateway.com but did you know about the “LISTEN TO THIS PASSAGE” feature?

Once you have entered the passage you would like to read you click on the little icon that looks like a speaker.  It’s right below the title of the book you are reading.  This feature is not available with all versions, but it has the two I like to use.

It’s totally convenient to click that little icon and have it read by Max McLean.   We open our Bibles and follow along, but he does the reading.  I’ve found that this is the best way to go for our chapters for reading through the Bible in a year.  When I am reading aloud to the kids I stumble over the hard names.  How distracting is that?  No more.  I use this feature every day!  Works for me!

    Well Rachel, I’m sure I wouldn’t know either if it weren’t for some smarty pants teen-aged Pirates who revel in clickin’ around on my ‘puter.

    What?!?!?!?! I’ve been using Biblegateway for ages, and I did NOT know this. And to think I almost splurged on an audio Bible. I’m so glad I didn’t!!

    Thanks for sharing.

    So nice to know. Thanks

    No, there will be a stop at the end of each chapter, but 2 clicks gets him talkin’ again.

    I use Bible Gateway all the time and missed this neat feature!
    Can you enter a long passage, like 4 entire chapters, for Max to read without stopping?

    Wow – thanks for letting me know about that. I’ve used Bible Gateway a lot but didn’t realize about the “speaking” feature. neat!

    You’re welcome. It certainly has helped us. :D

    Oh Thankyou thankyou thankyou!!! We are trying to read the bible in a year & my husband got stuck in Job last year! This way he could listen & understand maybe since it’s aloud!

    Ya know, I have to get it exactly right for it to recognize what I want. And I always manage to flub it. I have far more success googling Bible phrases.

    I also like the phrase search box. I can type in part of a scripture or a couple of subject words and it helps me find the verse I am thinking of. Very handy!

    A couple of our best friends were from Colorado & were here for 3 years working for a Christian ministry…. sadly they had to go back to the USA when their visas ran out but (I’m getting to the point)… they used to laugh at us & we used to laugh at them (pronounciation wise) So Smurf ‘hams-up’ the online dictionary guy’s voice & it sounds like our friends. Get any of that? ;}

  12. MotherHen says:

    Oh that’s a hoot! No British dictionaries online? I’m sure you teach him the “proper” pronunciation, but does he accept it and change or is he forever imprinted with the American way?

  13. Mandy McK says:

    That’s really useful… I didn’t know about that, we’ll certainly use it :) Similarly, when Smurf needs to look up definitions I let him use an online dictionary which reads out the word when you click on the speaker icon. It helps with really long words (although he then pronounces it with an American accent! heehee)
