Keepin’ it real.
Y’all read my menu plan on Monday. Yeah, that’s not really happening. We haven’t been to the grocery this week. Couple of reasons for that, mostly just real life rearing it’s sometimes inconvenient head.
But the challenge now is to pull some meals outta thin air. Or as Faith so eloquently put it – scrape the bottom of the pantry. (Which, to me, sounds kinda gross because the bottom of my pantry has buckets full of pet food, and we are not desperate. But, I digress, whew!)
I do have some food in my pantry, just not the ingredients for the meals I had planned, and not really stuff that goes together on a normal basis. And some of what I have, I just don’t have sufficient quantities of to really make a big meal for my big family. And so, good gravy, I have to plug in my brain!
I already put a pot of oats on the back burner, and we still have some yogurt in the fridge. I see some BREAKFAST!
I have bread makin’s. I have 2 cans of salmon that hubby said he didn’t really want anything to do with. Salmon patties are gonna need ketchup and ranch to dip in, and I am fresh out of both of those lovelies, but (strangely), I think I have what I need to whip up a fresh batch of each of those. I see some LUNCH!
I don’t think there is any green food in the house, except some celery that was left-over after making soup yesterday. It’s the skinny, inner bits, but it’s food. Maybe we’ll smear a little peanut butter on that, dot it with raisins. I see a SNACK!
I have one lonely bag of small red beans, but it’s only a pound. I usually do 2 pounds and plan for some leftovers for burritos for lunches. So this will be ALMOST enough. But I also have lots of rice, and I have cornbread makin’s (I think). I see some SUPPER!
There ya go. That looks like a regular days worth of food. I feel much better now that I have a plan. Hubby is going to the grocery this evening, so tomorrow I’ll be like a kid in a candy shop.

Way to go on making do. I love a good challenge and it seems you made the best of yours.

Hahaha!!! =D =D =D
Also, pay no attention to the fact that I am on the computer on a Tuesday and not a Wednesday. This is because I, in fact, am in charge of Joy School this week and therefore will not be having any time off at all. So I took my web day today instead.
That’s my excuse and ahm stickin’ to it!
Furthermore, I actually tidied my son’s room this afternoon. How awesome is that? =)
Yay! See? The internet can be used for good and is not just an evil time sucking machine. Pay no attention to the fact (**Jedi mind controlling hand wave**) that I am on the computer in the big middle of the day.
Thanks, Jenny!
I was lucky enough to be able to find the PDF of the manual for my machine online already – yay! I’ve stuck it on my desktop. I’ve used their white bread “test” loaf, but am now ready to try out their whole wheat loaf. Hopefully it turns out ok. =)
Looks like a good plan to me
I’ve had those days, too. Good for you for pulling together breakfast, lunch, snack and dinner!!!

Oh, Keeley, good for you! I’m so glad you got it! You’ll love all the wonderful things you will get out of it for your family. Now I am inspired to post some more bread machine recipes. I’m sure you read on Homemade and Wholesome how I found the manual for my Regal machine online in pdf. http://itswholesome.wordpress.com/2009/03/10/regal-breadmaker-manual/. I encourage you to look for one to go with your machine. You never know what you’ll find.
Those pictures are awesome! =)
Remember when you bought your faaaabulous second bread maker at a ridiculous price? I was so inspired I went to the local goodwill – but everything was appallingly gross and way too expensive.
Soooo the other day I was in there looking for a squirt bottle for some homemade cleaners (I looove the homemade cleaners =D) and thought I’d check out the bread machine section.
Can you believe it? Two likely looking suspects! One was $11 and one was $7. I bought the $7 one, obviously. =D
I brought it home and tentatively tried it…Oh MY! It works fabulous! And I made marmalade in it that was yummy!
So thanks so much for the inspiring push to check out goodwill for bread makers. =)
