Ultimate Blog Party – ‘09

   Posted by: MotherHen   in Extra-Categorical

Welcome to Ship Full O’ Pirates!  I’ve never participated in the Ultimate Blog Party before!  Wow, it’s huge!

I am a SAHM of 5 boys and one girl, the Pirates and The Princess.

This is me, now.

calzones-005a

And this is me, back when the eldest Pirate was the baby, sitting on the front porch of the house we still live in.  (Not sure, but I may have been about to sneeze.  LOL)

it-was-me-008a

We homeschool, we garden, we try to eat healthy, we love to make things and have tons of projects going on all the time.

I run 2 weekly blog carnivals.  Mother Hen’s Homemade Thursday and Weekend Fun Food (Saturdays).

I have a recipe blog for foods without dangerous, chemical additives.  It’s called Homemade and Wholesome.

My four oldest Pirates also have blogs.  I find blogging to be a great way to encourage kids to write and express themselves through words and art.

The Cap’n is my oldest Pirate, age 16.  He’s a photographer.  His blog is called The Cap’n’s Photo Blog.  (He juggles, those are juggling rings ’round his neck.)

Calico Zak is my second Pirate, almost 15.  He is also interested in photography, but his greatest talent is drawing.  His blog is called Calico Zak.

mister-macho-001

Billy Bones is my middle Pirate, almost 13.  His main interest is Astronomy, he’s quite the Scientist.   He is also a very talented writer.  His blog is called Billy Bones’ Blog.

Cannonball Jack is my lively, fourth Pirate, almost 11.  Cannonball loves YouTube vids about wildlife, and is also a very imaginative and talented writer.  His blog is called A Pirate’s Life.

silly-pirates-0051

The Squid, age 9, and The Princess, age 6, don’t have their own blogs yet, but I’m starting to think about it.

The Squid really likes amphibians of all sorts, and cheeseburgers.  Here you can see how he combined both loves into a froggy cheeseburger, YUMMMM!

my-9-year-old-011

The Princess is as diverse as her Mother Hen.  she loves skipping rope, riding her scooter, coloring, gardening, and is learning to read and has decided she doesn’t really need all of her teeth.

I’m glad you stopped by.  Please leave a comment so I can meet you too!

Here’s your shortcut back to the Ultimate Blog Party.

It’s nice to meet you and your pirates (oh, and your princess!) Sounds like you have a talented (and healthy) bunch. We are health nuts over here too and like some of the things you mentioned (photography, writing, art, etc)
Come on over and visit me. I’m giving away some neat girly gifts.
Have a lovely weekend!

Just stopping for a visit with the Blog Party. I’m not a blogger myself but this is so much fun, I’m thinking about starting my own! 6 children, 5 of which are boys! Wow! I’m going to stop by again and check out your healthy recipes. This is a subject near and dear to my heart. I am always looking for these kind of tips.

Hey, Jen! Just had to tell you that my son was looking over my shoulder when I logged on to your blog and he had two comments that I thought were cute.

The first one was, “Five boys and one girl? That poor, poor girl!” Secondly, he pointed at your picture and said, “Mom, that looks kind of like you, with the glasses and the hair!”

If you haven’t seen my photo on my blog, check it out and see if you think we look alike!

By the way, please thank your son for the drawing advice. I’m going to find some of those “how-to” books to help my son with his art.

love, mary bailey

Hi Mary,
That’s just too funny. I used to read a blog by a gal that my kids thought I looked like.
And tell your son that our Princess is very blessed with lots of girl-friends, but is also tough as nails. So no sympathy required on the “all those brothers” front. 8)

Very handsome family you have! I had six, but more the brady bunch mix of 3/3, and my youngest graduates this spring. Then it’s on to a new stage of an empty nest, although at this point we have 7 grands with more on the way, and that’s only half the family married! Will my empty nest stay empty???? Nice to meet you on this blogging party.

Found your throught UBP. Only have three boys in the house, all homeschooled. Wish we had a space to really garden, but will be content with containers on the deck. We’re renting ~ so digging up the lawn isn’t a real option ~ and we live adjacent to state land with LOTS of deer visiting the yard each day.

Just found your blog and really enjoying reading it.
Your kids blogs are fantastic. I have a blog carnival for homeschooled kids – it would be great if they would like to join in. You can find details at http://www.homeschooling-ideas.com/homeschool-blogs.html
