WFMW – Measuring Cups

I can’t believe how long it took me to work this out in my own kitchen.

Years ago, when I realised that Dollar Tree sold measuring cup and spoons I decided I would keep about 3 or 4 sets of each (after all, they’re just a buck), just so I don’t have to stop in the middle of baking something to find and wash one.  That totally works for me.

But here’s the recent light bulb moment.

I now keep measuring cups in my canisters.  Whatever size measuring cup I use most often in that canister can just live in the canister.  Since I am only measuring that one item with that particular measure cup I don’t need (or want) to wash it every time.

I also don’t wash the measure cup or spoons that only measure stuff that doesn’t stick, like salt, sugar, honey and oatmeal.  Just seein’ if you’re awake.

Here’s your shortcut back to Works for me Wednesday.

I do that, too AND we have the same containers for flour AND I have a heart with my bread flour that I wrote with a black sharpie. Neato.

My WFMW Post features a song I wrote about your quitting blogging. I wrote it when you quit. The song just came to me. I altered the second verse when you came back. Enjoy it.

Smart idea, and one that I do also in the flour … but, you’ve inspired me to keep cups in the oatmeal and rice, too :)

great idea! I keep measuring cups in often used items too. I really like how you have all of your measuring cups and spoons corralled in those baskets!

Wow – that’s a great idea! My canisters came with spoons, but putting the measuring cups in them instead would be much more functional!

Just a little FYI, I stopped purchasing anything at the dollar type store that are “supposed” measure things:) The measuring cups and spoon here in Oregon aren’t the measurements that they claim:(

BTW I love your blog and am so happy you are back! Everyone needs a moment to re-group:)
Anyone doing anything special for our First Day Of Spring 2009?

I keep a whole set of nested measuring cups in my flour bin, as well as a measuring tablespoon and a plastic knife to level off the flour. I just keep 1/4 and 1/2 cup measures in the sugar bin, because I use those the most!
