Yes, folks, today is my birthday! Don’t get excited, I’m in a funk. A genuine, blue funk!
I’m razzled at my next door neighbor! Not my wonderful, book swap going, nice, friendly, homeschooling, across-the-street neighbor. My next-door neighbor who, although we have lived next to them for 18 years, we have spoken to… brace yourselves… twice.
I don’t think they’re malicious, just very introverted. But yesterday’s act makes me wonder.
Our tree that shades our rabbit cages hangs over into their yard. I didn’t consider this to be a big deal since lots of their trees stick over into our yard. It’s just a thing, we have lots of trees that are kinda right at the fence line. And being trees, they have no repect for which side of the fence they put their roots down on and which side of the fence they hang their branches over. I understand that about trees.
Apparently the neighbor doesn’t get trees the way I do. Yesterday, he cut down all the branches of our tree that hang over on his side of the fence.

You got it, my rabbits are now having a hard time finding a shady spot. They are safe from the noonday sun and most of the afternoon sun, but the morning sun is right on ‘em.
I’m not sure, but Hubs might be able to position the cages so as to get all day shade. But this morning when I went out to feed them, the older set were in full sun. I’m glad I was able to get to them early. (I always go out to feed at 8 a.m.) If they’d had to sit there for another couple of hours it would have killed them. At least the one in the cage on the eastern end of the unit, which just happens to be Annabelle, the sweetest of the three older rabbits.
Now here’s where it gets all personal and begins to ruin my birthday. Hubs and the two eldest boys were already gone for the day. That left me with Dusty (Rowdy was still asleep, don’t ask why I didn’t wake him, I didn’t think of it).
Now, Dusty is perfectly capable, but this is a two person job. Guess who the other person was. Here are some hints.
- You love her like a sister.
- She’s really miffed right now.
- Today’s her birthday for cryin’ out loud!
- She threw her back out while moving rabbit cages at 8 a.m.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know. The neightbor has every right to cut those branches. I shouldn’t have been relying on shade that “his” branches were providing, I should get over it.
I will.
But, man, my back hurts.
…and all on my birthday!!!

I’m pleasantly surprised today. My back, while it still hurts a great deal, isn’t limiting me very much. I’m able to get stuff done that got left over from yesterday. Thanks!
Happy Birthday Jenny! Sorry for the bad start. How is your back? Better today I hope. We rent too but at least our street is all renters except for a couple of landlords that live on the street. We are the weird family on our street too. Those wacko, homeschooling, Christians who garden and bake and whose children are expected to do chores. Luckily our landlords are moving in next door (the street consists of duplexes) and they are wonderful Christian people.

Happy birthday!!!!
Thanks Lois!
But, what is with the silent, tree hacking neighbors? So sorry for your daughter. That’s something that is hard to replace in a kid’s life.
Yay for neighbor-less living!
I’m sorry , and I feel your pain. Two years ago, our neighbors cut our tree PAST the fence line, without warning, and cut down my teen age daughter’s favorite “talk to God spot.” She cried and so did I. And they hacked our tree all up very messily. We would have been happy to prune it back to the fence line if they had asked. They don’t talk much, either, even when we try to be friendly. sigh.
Happy Birthday, anyway! And I will pray that your back heals quickly, and that you will love your neighbors well, in spite of the tree.
Happy, Happy Birthday! On your next birthday you will be blissfully neighbor-less!

Can’t be too bad, dinner is already cooked and I’m gonna sit me down and watch a Star Trek movie! Or maybe a Western!
Sorry to hear of your sad start. May your evening be an improvement.
I had no idea we had close birthdays! Undisclosed! Snort!
Happy Birthday, dear friend. If Texas weren’t so darn far from me, I’d come over, fix you dinner, and play a card game with you.
Then on Thursday, when I turn an undisclosed amount… you can come hang out with me, OK?

Well, we ARE peculiar! But when we moved here we were way less peculiar than we are right now! I think the problem here is that we rent our house in what is a mostly static community of home owners. When we moved in here, these folks pegged us as “short term renters” and therefore not worth investing time or energy. Turned out differently, but after a couple of years of extreme ignoration it’s really difficult and awkward to introduce yourselves. I heap all the blame on them, because we had reached out, even as newcomers to the neighborhood, but we remain shunned. Whatever, to each his own, and to me – the Texas Hill Country! I’m already there, in my thoughts, just gotta live out the remaining months of this lease.
Why should they speak to you? After all, you are a crazy, Christian, large family, homeschooling wierdo you know. Oh, wait a minute..so am I!!!!

I concur! But, alas, they aren’t the sort to , you know, actually, um, er, speak to , um, er, us! I’m sure Hubs will fix the shade problem.
Oh I am so sorry that your birthday did not start out well but the day isn’t over yet! At least with your back out you can sit and play on the internet all day!
)
BTW, I think the neighbors should have at least spoken with you about the tree before cutting all the branches..it was still your tree..consideration would be the least they could do.
