Rabbits at 1 a.m.?

   Posted by: MotherHen   in Rabbits

I’ve been getting up in the night with my children for years on end, but I kinda thought I’d put that behind me.

Not so.

Last night at 1:04 a.m. I woke up to the sound of tiny rain drops falling in my garden.  Remember, we aren’t using our a/c and my garden is just outside my bedroom window, so I could hear that lovely sound with no problem.

The weird bit is that I was instantly all the way awake and running outside to check on the rabbits IN THE RAIN!  IN MY NIGHT GOWN!

Sally Mae’s pet rabbit, Cookie, doesn’t have a fancy shelter like the others yet, and I hadn’t put the board that serves as her roof back in place.

I’m happy to report that all the rabbits are fine.  It didn’t even rain that much.  We’ve had lots of clouds and thunder all day today and still no rain during the daylight hours.  That’s fine with me, the clouds have kept the heat away.  It’s about 15° cooler today than it would be otherwise.  And that makes everybody happier.  Rabbits included!

Ahhh… the joys of responsibility! My DH keeps reminding me that when we get any type of animal our days of being free to “jet off” anywhere will be limited. I can deal with out vacations but I will miss weekend camping trips. I’m going to have to compile a list of responsible friends that might come over and take care of animals for a couple days at a time. Hmmm… maybe I should start a chicken and rabbit sitting service. Unfortunately most chicken and meat rabbit owners aren’t that foolish.
