Slim has been telling me that reading gives him a headache, so I took him to the eye doctor a few weeks ago. Turns out he not only needs glasses, he really NEEDS glasses. His prescription is almost as strong as mine IN THE BIFOCAL part. I’m amazed he was able to read at all. The eye doc said it’s only because his eyes are younger than mine that he can focus for brief periods, but, of course, it eventually gives him a headache.
Since Hubs and I are so thrilled with our glasses from Zenni Optical I decided to order Slim’s glasses online as well. Only the day I wanted to order them Zenni’s web site was broken and wouldn’t show me any kid glasses at all. I choose to find another online outlet for inexpensive glasses. I figured they must be a dime a dozen, but I really only found a handful. I ordered from Best Price Glasses. They were reasonably priced ($16.95 +sh&h) and promised to have the glasses here very quickly.
Well, yesterday was the big day. He RAN to the mailbox and got to meet our letter carrier who was holding… a… package!!!
A happier boy you never saw!
But before I relate what happened next you need to consider how boys think. Slim is the youngest of 5 brothers. Slim is still in the little kid age range and the brothers have all started gettin’ to be rough, tall, strong, big brothers. And things cross a boy’s mind that a mother just doesn’t always see comin’.
So, Slim (age 9) puts on his handsome, new glasses and walks straight over to his next older brother, Rowdy (age 11) and pokes him right smack on top of his noggin. Then Slim just sauntered away with an enormous (albeit smug) grin on his face, thinkin’ he has a free ticket now! No one is allowed to hit a person wearing glasses!
I may have gotten a hernia tryin’ to not laugh right in his face.
Of course, I had to explain to Slim how ya can’t go around pokin’ folks, even brothers, just because you think they, likely, won’t retaliate.
I should tell this tale to Hubs. He may see things differently, him bein’ the youngest of 5 brothers himself.

Well, Carri, you and I can talk about how “adorable” he looks in his glasses, but when he’s listening I always try to remember to say “handsome” instead. And
shut upstop that talk about the brother paying the $20 + shipping, some boy might get an idea.I am sure he won’t want to hear this, but he looks ADORABLE in those glasses!!!
And if I were an older, unnamed brother, I may just figure paying $20 plus shipping would be worth teaching said younger brother a lesson.
