Spanish Test Today!

I never would have thought I’d be giving a 6 year old a Spanish test, but this is one of the most wonderful, beneficial aspects of homeschooling.  Tailoring the curriculum to the specific needs and abilities and desires if the students.

It is my Hubs desire that our kids speak Spanish.  So I am teaching Spanish.  Right now I am teaching beginning Spanish to the younger half of my children.

During the very first lesson Sally Mae whispered to me, “This is the most fun I’ve ever had in my life!”  You might say I’m VERY motivated to keep this up! She loves it, and she loves it so much that if I don’t keep it up she will just make up some vocabulary on her own.

True story- the other day we were talking about the Spanish word for bread and Sally Mae informed her brothers, ” Pan.  That’s how you say bread, but only if you’re talking about regular bread.  If you wanna say hot dog bun you have to say *insert some little girl foreign language gobbledy gook here*

So, since that is not likely to help much, I MUST keep on with the legitimate lessons.

And since I know you are trying very hard to finish reading the rest of the post before blurting out, “What on earth Spanish curriculum is appropriate for a six year old, pray tell?”  I’ll tell you.

The Learnables.

No reading is required in book one.  The man on the cd does the talking and the book is pictures.

Now, I wouldn’t ask her to do this without me, but each lesson only takes about 20 minutes.

After today’s lesson we had our first test.  Totally low key.  But that girl, she really pays attention.

Sally Mae scored  90%.

Yeah, I think we have identified a possible strength.

  1. Sounds like your daughter is having a blast! Makes teaching it so much easier, doesn’t it?

My girls, 7 and 10, started learning Spanish this year with Rosetta Stone. They’re really enjoying it and trying to speak it all the time, too.

  2. Jeanie says:

Awesome! We are going with Rosetta Stone as my daughter just started using it for Italian and LOVES it. What program are you using?

  3. MotherHen says:

I got mine at a book swap, but you can just click on the link in my post and buy it from them. And yes, they have lots of languages.

  4. Michelle B. says:

So where do you get the learnables and do they do other languages besides spanish?
