I guess (having just now looked again at the actual question you asked) I tend to look at the whole week, rather than the day so much. But just for fun, here’s how the day usually looks.
- 6:30 Hubs wakes me up
- 7:00 he wakes the children, I cook some cream of wheat and maybe make some toast, the kids start doing their morning chores when they get up and continue till they’re done (really, it only takes them about 15-20 minutes once they get started)
- 7:30 I exercise, they eat breakfast, the boys pack lunch for work, I soak the breakfast dishes in a dishpan
- 8:00 I eat breakfast, Hubs and some of the boys are off to work
- 8:20 I start the beans, someone feeds and waters the rabbits
- 8:30 I start the laundry
- 8:40 we read our Bible
- 9:30 school starts
- laundry continues
- 1o:30 if we want baked potatoes for lunch we better start ‘em now
- laundry continues
- 12:00 lunch, straighten up the kitchen, maybe wash some dishes
- laundry continues
- 1:00 more school, bake bread on those baking days
- laundry continues
- 3:00 outdoors for the kids
- laundry continues
- 4:00 straighten up the kitchen
- laundry continues
- 5:00 make the cornbread and rice
- 5:20 someone feeds and waters the rabbits, I try to have the laundry all done by now
- 6:15 (or so) dinner
- 7:00 bigs do dishes, littles get ready for bed
- 8:00 bedtimes and showers start
- 10:00 the lid is on, the smoking light is out, please feel free to roam about your dreams
The “free-time” you’re wondering about usually comes in the afternoons and the evenings. I can blog or crochet after the day’s school work is done and after dinner. Sometimes I crochet while we listen to a lecture on cd or watch a dvd. And I crochet when anyone is sick, even me.
I use my cell phone schedule and alarm functions throughout the day for different things. I tend to get wrapped up in one activity and forget to move on. And I also use it so the rabbits don’t die of starvation.
I hope this helps and I’m glad to answer any other questions you may have. I should go check the dryer now.

LOL! My phone rings reminders at least 5 times more often than it rings with an actual phone call! I have a really cheap plan, that’s about all my phone does. But, it is the most handy thing! I don’t know how I got along without it!
Sounds like me. Transfer the laundry and start another load is heard constantly around here. And my 17yr old was reading over my shoulder while I was looking at this. She groaned when she got to the part about you using the alarm functions on the cell phone to keep up with things. She said she thinks that must be the first thing mothers learn about their cells.
If I remember to do it, I soak them the night before. Usually I just wake up in the night and wonder if I am soaking beans or not, and occasionally I’ll do the quick soak method.. When I put the beans into the crockpot (soaked or not) I add boiling water to the pot. That way they get a quick start. I put ‘em on high, and don’t open the pot much. My beans are usually done (soft enough to suit us) somewhere between 3 and 4 o’clock. I wonder if your crockpot doesn’t cook as hot as mine. Maybe cooking them on the stove would work better for you.
Awesome! That really helps me see where I could use my time more effectively. I really appreciate the entire series you did. It gave me lots of good ideas to implement. I think if we could get our mornings moving faster we would do much better. I’m notorious for not wanting to move onto the next task until the first is done. The timers in my house will need to be put to use. Especially if I want to bake bread every day. My one question is on the beans. I usually start mine the night before we want to eat them. Are they really done if you start them the next morning? I cook mine in the crockpot with water and a bit of baking soda. We don’t have beans as often as we’d like because I tend to forget to start them the night before.
