More Goofing-off Redeemed by Productivity

Posted by: MotherHen   in Free Stuff, Yarn!

Sat down to (finally) watch the second part of The Sacketts last evening, only to find out that Hubs was right.  We had already watched it and I slept through some of it, which messes with my already foggy-headed memory . . . big time.

So, I watched the whole thing over again, cuz, you know, I like to watch westerns. ‘Specially a western starring Tom Selleck or Sam Elliot, and The Sacketts is a double whammy.  Got both of those dudes!

Anyway, the beauty of watching a movie for the second tenth fortieth time is that I can crochet while I “watch”!

(Tex swears that the ending punctuation goes after the end quote dealie when it’s just the quotes around a word for effect!  If it’s wrong blame his Grammar book!)

Have y’all discovered this wonderful resource for free crochet patterns?  Extensive isn’t a powerful enough word to cover it.  There are a ton of free patterns here.

I think this is the one I modified for my coasters.

Read her pattern for starters.  I tried it her way and mine didn’t lay flat.  Kinda important for a coaster.

Here is how I made mine.

  • Start with a magic circle.  Just make the loop.
  • Round 1:  Chain (ch) three in the magic circle.  Double crochet (dc) 11 in circle.  Join to beg. with slip stitch (ss).
  • Round 2:  Ch 2, dc in same stitch as ss.  Dc in each st around.  Join to beg. with ss.
  • Round 3:  Ch 2, dc in same stitch as ss.  *2 dc in next stitch, dc in next stitch, 2 dc in next stitch.*  Repeat from * to * around.  Join to beg. stitch with ss.  Finish off.

I always think I would rather have fancier, more artistic coasters like some of these.  Then I remember that I would cry if a fancy, artistic (harder to make) coaster got lost or left outside (boys!).  And, duh, it’s hard enough to get a Cowboy to use a coaster in the first place, much less a coaster with a frilly edge or one shaped like a heart or something equally offensive to their Cowboy sensibilities!

Besides all that, I can make a simple coaster while watching westerns.  Create art during a movie?  Not so much!

I totally agree with you on Tom Selleck and Sam Elliot! We love westerns around here and I think I’ve seen nearly every John Wayne movie ever. Plus I’ve read all the Sackett books and pretty much everything else Louis L’amour wrote.

Thanks for the link to the crochet site! Just what I need…more free patterns!

For those of you who are new here, Susan is my e-twin. We look alike (according to my kids, because they are sweet that way) and we like the same kinds of stuff. See? E-twins! ;)

LOL! I know what you mean Jenny! It’s like we’re twins separated at birth sometimes…you weren’t by chance born in Fort Worth were you?…lol!. We really have a lot in common…one of these days we really need to meet up. I have family in SA, maybe we need to visit them this summer just so we have an excuse to meet =)
