Cobbler 001

Preheat your oven to 350° and grease your 9 x 13 pan.

You’ll need:

  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 cups oats
  • 1 t cinnamon
  • ½ t nutmeg
  • ½ t salt
  • 1½ cups brown sugar
  • 3 sticks butter (1½ cups)
  • 6 cups peeled, cored and sliced apples

In your large bowl combine the flour, oats, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt and brown sugar.  Cut the butter into the flour mixture using two knives or a pastry cutter.

Press half of the crumb mixture into the 9 x 13 pan.  Next add the apples.  Top it off with the other half of the crumb mixture, just sprinkle it on, don’t press this time.

Bake at 350° for about 45 – 50 minutes until the apples are tender.

Serve it hot with ice cream or cold by itself.  Yum!

That looks so good! Just found some apples for 50 cents a pound. I’m going to have to go get more! Any idea how many large apples I might need for 6 cups?

I don’t even know how many I used and mine were quite small. If they’re really large you might only need 3 or 4, but it’s kinda hard to see them from here. ;)

3 1/2 got the job done :) . It was soooo good, and I didn’t even mess it up. I was getting worried when I was cutting in the butter.
