Congratulations! You have been to to Ship Full O' Pirates over 100 times! Just thought you'd like to know.
You see them all around bloggityville. Here’s a short listing of some of my favorites.
Really there are only three steps to joining a linky, sometimes called a meme.
The first thing you need to do is apply the hosts banner to your post for that particular meme. This isn’t necessary, but it’s a good idea, so why not learn how. I have banners and buttons for my memes/linkys. Usually, the banners go in the post and the buttons can go in your sidebar. The banners are just images that you can right click on and save to your computer and then upload to your blog’s media library. You do this in almost the same way as you would add a photo to your post, only you’ll find the image (after you save it to your computer) in the downloads section instead of the pictures section of your computer. If you know how to make an image a link (just highlight it and add the link the same as with a text link) then you can also link the banner to the hosts permalink.
To add my button to your sidebar just copy the HTML code below the button and insert it into a text widget on your blog dashboard.
The second thing you need to do is insert a link in your post that takes your readers to the hosts Linky Post. You’ll write a little line on the end of your post such as:
Here’s your shortcut back to Fit as a Farmhand so you can go read all the great fitness and weight-loss tips linked up on her post.
Then you can make all or part of that sentence the link so that your readers can get to the hosts linky post.
Copy the hosts permalink (click here to read a fine tutorial on what a permalink is) and paste it as a link in your post.
The third thing you need to do is link your post on the linky. I know of just two kinds of linkys. Mister Linky and MckLinky. They are both fairly self explanatory and easy to use. You just type your name (or your online name) in the main blank on the entry form at the end of the hosts linky post and then, in parenthesis, after your name, you type the name of your post. The next blank is for the permalink to your post. Don’t use the link to your homepage or after a while folks won’t be able to find the right post. Knowing how to find the permalink is a handy skill you will not be sorry you took the time to learn!
Don’t worry if you get to the host’s post and can’t find the form with the blanks. There’s more than one kind of linky with each of the linky makers and one of those kinds requires you to click the linky logo to get to the submission form. Sounds much more complicated than it is. It’ll say something like “You’re next! Click here!” Pretty simple.
The main thing is don’t let it get ya down. Give it a try, if ya can’t figure it out leave me a comment and I’ll walk ya through it. Once you’ve done it a time or two you’ll be an old hand at it!
Here are the banners I’ve made for my new features.
Every Tuesday you can use this banner.
And every Friday you can use this banner.
My buttons are already in the sidebar. Look in the left sidebar directly under the BlogHerAd.
Oh yeah, I said I would tell ya why you wanna participate in the linkys. Well, you have something to say or you wouldn’t be blogging. Linkys bring folks to your blog who wanna read what it is you have to say. That’s the nutshell. I could go on and on about being a part of a community, or meeting new friends, and that’s all true and it’s all important. But the bottom line is this, you wouldn’t be spending the time and effort writing brilliantly witty and stunningly informative blog posts if nobody could find them. Linky helps folks find your blog and the amazing posts you’ve written there. Try it a few times and watch your stats. Then you, like me, will be a linkaholic!
Ha ha, here’s your link to Works for me Wednesday! See? So easy! So fun!

Good idea, Melissa! Also, it’ll probably help if you read the articles I linked to in the post. Stuff like this I always have to re-read, and then try a couple of times. Soooo not in my nature to do new stuff on the computer or the internet. But I’m learning, slowly of course.
Thanks for explaining how to do this, too bad my brain is too tired to understand anything I just read
. I’ll read it again in the morning.
