I am so excited I hardly know where to begin!

Last Thursday I had a tiny bump on my arm, so I went into the bathroom to see if it was a tiny pimple or bit o’ something I can just flick off or what.  You won’t believe what happened!  I looked in the mirror and saw my arm!  Big surprize, eh?  But, I saw my whole arm!  Not just the fat-chick, tunnel-vision kind of looking in the mirror, but really and truly looking in the whole mirror and seeing my whole arm.

If you’re a slender or normal weight person then I must sound like a raving lunatic.  Just trust me, when you’re fat you develop a self defense kind of mirror usage.  Really.

And you may also wonder why seeing my whole arm is a big deal.  Well, I’ll tell ya.  I saw my arm, and the arm, it is big.  It is enough arm for three people.  Not even three skinny people.  Three average weight people.  My arm is big.

So, having my blinders off and my inner sense of self already offended, I decided to get the BIG picture and look at all of me.  It was an epiphany.  I was shocked.

(Sorry, all you skinny folks, I know you’re lost, come back tomorrow when I’ll be talking about stuff everyone can relate to) (maybe)

Anyway, it was the very thing I needed to light a fire under my prodigious fanny.  I told Hubs that night (matter of fact I woke him up to tell him) that I have to lose the weight, so I am gonna go on the Atkins diet.

Friday morning I cracked open my old copy of Dr. Atkins book.  I even had an extra carb counter book.  (I’m tellin’ ya, books everywhere!)  And Friday was Atkins-Day 1.  I managed to make-do for Friday with the food I had in the house.  Studied up real good that evening.  Made my meal plan and my grocery list and headed out, Saturday morning, for my grocery store.  Now I’m all set for the week.  Meals, snacks, planning, journal (I should get on that part).

Weight

By Friday morning my weight was the same as it was last Monday.  By this  Monday morning I had lost 7 lbs.!!! Yeah baby!

Seven.whole.pounds.in.three.days!

I can deal with that!

Excercise

I walked three times last week, 2 miles each time.

Diet

Atkins!  This is a big change!  I love meat and cheese and eggs!  Oh my!  Yes, I do!  And I am really enjoying the food I get to eat on this diet, but, I am addicted to carbs.  I’m feeling their absence.  I’m kinda tired, but that may just be the stress of doing things differently.  Change is hard.  But, I’m also really missing munching on bread or chips or (insert your favorite carb-dense food here).  Not missing them enough to eat them though!

Now it’s your turn.

Hi Olivia, Hi Allison! Thanks for the encouraging words! I think I can feel a little more energy today (but don’t tell anyone, I’m still milking this!). :D

  3. Olivia says:

Good job! Those first pounds are usually so difficult!

  4. Allison says:

Congratulations! Keep up the work, you will be so happy that you did. You’ll have so much energy that you won’t know what to do with it.

Good, I’m glad to hear the same thing from another trusted source, about the energy. I just played a game of ping-pong with Tex. The End. I have no more energy. I can do stuff, but it sure would be a lot simpler to just sit. Know what I mean? (btw, i won!)

I love Adkins! I always feel best when I eat that way, aside from losing weight.
Just wait – your energy will come back and be more stable than ever before. I find it helps with moods, too. No rollercoasters on either count when I’m eating right!

Hi Cyndi, Hi Janee’, Yes I am doing the Induction phase of Atkins. Cold turkey on most of those carbs. I’m eating salad and meat and cheese and eggs and that’s about all. But I make a wicked salad with lots of variety and some wonderful homemade dressing. Hubs was on Atkins before (about 6 years ago) with grand results, and now, so far I’ve lost 10lbs, so I’m happy. Yes, I’m still waiting for my energy to return, Hubs says it’ll be back in a few more days. Just waiting for my body to adjust to the new regime. I’m really excited about this. I have tons of clothes that I just needed to lose 20 pounds to fit. It’ll be like getting a whole new wardrobe! :D

  8. Janee' says:

are you doing the induction phase? There is so much out there about the best way to lose weight and it all seems to contradict each other. I know I am a carb addict, maybe this is the place to start.

  9. Cyndi L says:

Cutting some carbs is a good thing but your body does need some carbs in a balanced diet. Carbs actually help give your body what it needs to exercise longer and harder. Just make sure that the carbs you do eat are complex and not simple. Definately whole grain! I have seen the difference in my stamina when I eat a high protein vs. balanced with carbs. That being said… 7 lbs is awesome! You go girl!!!

  10. Faith Marandola says:

YaY!!!! 7lbs is a terrific start!!!!!! I remember that ephinany moment when i was 22 and 210 lbs, that would be a size 22 w…..ouch…..so, you go girl!
